The Blue Skies Challenge Activities consist of a number of confidence building and initiative activities, they can be completed individually or in small groups; for team building, timed challenges and can be altered to increase the level of difficulty. Included also is our popular ‘Flying Fox; the key is available from Blue Skies office, it needs to be signed out by the supervising adult, following reading and acknowledging the conditions of use.
While completing the Challenge Activities participants are asked to keep these principals in mind: Participation /Enjoyment /Safety
These are team building activities and all participants should be encouraged to join in and be part of the team. They should be enjoying the experiences and not forced to try an exercise outside their comfort zone.
All activities should be completed with safety in mind.
The Challenge Course usually takes 25 minutes for individuals, or 40 minutes for a group, depending on ability and the challenges set by the supervisor. It includes the following:
· Concrete pipe tunnel
· Low swing plank run
· Stepping across pond
· Tyre wall
· Tall swinging plank
· Over wall
· Over horizontal tyres
· Sloping balance walk
· Two rope bridge
· Swinging rope into net
· Spiders web
· Electric fence
· Cable drum
· Balance drum
· Giant’s finger pole
· River crossing
· Swamp crossing
· High wall
· Whale watch
· Tyre stack
All children must be supervised at all times.
We recommend the Challenge Activities be used as a confidence and team building exercise for young and mixed ability groups and not as a time trial or race to compete against each other, as this may cause accidents. Sturdy footwear should be worn at all times while participating on the confidence course activities.
A suggested team building approach to the Challenge Activities is to work in small teams of approximately six persons. For mixed ability groups, four out of six members of each team can be required to complete each exercise, however these team members should rotate around the whole team. This will allow any member unable to participate in a particular activity to opt out (e.g. Fear of heights). To increase the degree of difficulty you can have the team carry a bucket of water, “Nuclear Waste” around the activities to be carried at all times and not to be put down or touch ground. At completion you can measure quantity of water still in bucket to help determine the winning team. Points can also be scored for successfully completing each exercise.
There are 18 exercises located around the grounds, for individuals or small groups.
